平羅縣地名由來：原名“平虜”，以明代的平虜守御千戶所得名，寓“平定虜寇”之意。清朝時以忌諱“虜”字，取諧音改名“平羅”。
2022年8月，平羅縣被確定為國家知識產(chǎn)權(quán)強(qiáng)縣建設(shè)試點縣。
2021年12月，平羅縣被列入2021年農(nóng)業(yè)現(xiàn)代化示范區(qū)創(chuàng)建名單。
2021年12月，平羅縣授牌命名為平安中國建設(shè)示范縣。
2021年11月，平羅縣被確定為第二批全國兒童青少年近視防控適宜技術(shù)試點縣（區(qū)）。
2021年10月，2021年度全國投資潛力百強(qiáng)縣市名單發(fā)布，平羅縣名列第71。
2021年5月，根據(jù)第七次全國人口普查結(jié)果，平羅縣人口數(shù)量為27.42萬人，位列石嘴山市各縣區(qū)人口數(shù)量排行榜第2位，位列寧夏各縣市區(qū)人口數(shù)量排行榜第15位，位列全國各縣市區(qū)人口數(shù)量排行榜第1876位。
2021年4月，平羅縣被認(rèn)定為2020年全國兒童青少年近視防控試點縣（市、區(qū)）名單。
